Frequently Asked Questions
Do you teach private lessons?
No, sorry. At this time running the new shop keeps me super busy. I'm not able to schedule private lessons.
Do you teach adults?
Yes! I teach all ages from 8 years old and up.How much are your classes?
It depends on what type of class you take. Please see Classes for prices.Do you need any experience to sign up for your classes?
We offer beginner classes, intermediate and advanced. There are classes designed for absolute beginners. Many students don't have their own machines or haven't even taken their new sewing machine out of the box before they take a class with me. I also have students with some knowledge of sewing, but want a refresher, or need help understanding how to read a pattern, or finishing a project. You'll find a class that is right for you somewhere in our schedule.Do I need to bring my own machine?
No. In fact, in all the group beginner classes, we use the classroom sewing machines and I ask that you keep your personal machine at home. This keeps classes running smoothly and fairly so that I don't spend class-time troubleshooting a student's machine that I'm not familiar with. If a student would like to learn how to use their own machine, we can schedule a private lesson. Students familiar with their own machines are welcome to bring them to any non-beginner class. When do your classes meet?
Classes meet on an assigned day from October to May. Please check the calendar. What will I learn in class?
- Sewing safety
- Parts of a sewing machine
- Names of useful sewing tools and how to use them
- How to sew a straight line
- How to turn corners
- How to sew curvy seams
- How to read patterns
- Simple Alterations (hemming pants, taking in garments that are too big, etc...)

For the kids classes we use a combination of the "Kids Can Sew" curriculum, my patterns and patterns that the kids design. Projects include: shorts, pjs, shirts, skirts, shorts, stuffed animals, bags, and more. Check out the gallery to see what the kids are making!
