Description: Illusion at its best! But how do you get those curves? With straight lines of course. Go figure but it’s just that simple. You take two relatively high contrasting colors, you alternate two pieced “quilter friendly” blocks then float segments into the border and just like that you’re done! You will learn how to make pointy triangle segments with the Tri-Recs tool and how to artfully transition and color blend from one block to the next.

Five - 18” x 22” assorted feature fabrics
One – 4 ½” x 22” accent fabric
1 yard of light background fabric
1 yard of medium background fabric
½ yard for binding
3 yards for backing

- Suggestion for Fabric selection: use five fabrics that compliment each other and one fabric that ‘pops’ with the others for the accent fabric. Select a light background fabric with works well with your feature fabrics and provides contrast. The medium background fabric can be a darker hue of the light background fabric.
- Sewing machine that you are familiar with. It should be clean, oiled and ready to go. Don’t forget your foot controls, plug-in cord and your machine’s Operations Manual. If you have an extension table for your machine, bring that as well. Bring the machine’s accessories that came with it, i.e. screw driver, thread spool lock, dust brush, etc.
- Good quality 50 weight 2 ply cotton thread to use in your project
- At least two bobbins, pre-filled before class
- ¼” sewing foot
- Fabric scissors/shears
- Cutting mat, 18” x 24” preferred
- Tri-Recs Tool and Angle Trim Tool
- Gridded ruler, at least 6 ½” x 12 ½” (Creative Grid rulers of this size are available at TrishTacSew). (Optional but highly recommended - Gridded ruler of 12 ½” x 12 ½”)
- Rotary Cutter with clean sharp blade
- Seam ripper
- Notepad/paper & pen/pencil for notes
- Optional: Small portable design wall

| Instructor Bio: | Cheryl Taylor loves to make quilts, along with a variety of other fabric projects; think .. storage containers, bottle bags, microwave bowls, and beds for pets to sleep and cuddle in. But her favorite activity is sharing easy techniques with others - some are ones she's improved upon from traditional techniques; other techniques she had streamlined so the process is easier to execute. Sharing the skills she has learned with others has always been important to her. As an instructor, she encourages students to conquer their fears and jump right into the process. Her primary area of expertise is designing and making T-shirt and/or clothing quilts. She has lots of suggestions for simplifying this sometimes-overwhelming task. But she also shares several quilt or project-making techniques designed to help simplify the quilt or project making processes. Examples include easy curved piecing, no-stress zippers, cutting techniques for Stack n' Whack and One Block Wonder quilt designs, and no-paper-tearing Foundation Paper Piecing. |
