Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details:
Instructor: Cheryl Taylor
Instructor Bio: My first quilt was an Irish double chain started in a class titled “Make a quilt in a day”! It took me 3 years to finish. I love to share knowledge and information with others. I honed my teaching skills in the corporate world dealing with ‘students’ of varying backgrounds and skill/knowledge levels. Since rejoining the quilting world, I have focused on learning and teaching new and/or unique techniques to quilters in the Coachella Valley. I consult on design options, color usage and finishing techniques. I look for efficient ways to do cumbersome tasks, especially when it comes to piecing. I take projects that are in mid-stream and mentally sort through the series of next steps to a successful result. I guide clients through the remaining steps giving them the confidence to complete their project. I am a certified Sewing Machine Technician, having serviced close to 100 different machine makes/models since 2015. My primary focus (and love) is servicing the Singer Featherweight 221. My training includes course work from key professional quilters/designers over the past 12 twelve years, including the incredible Eleanor Burns with her sister, Patricia Knoechel. I self-taught techniques such as Stack ‘n Whack, One Block Wonder, T-shirt design & layout, channel stitch quilting, among others, and developed my own courses for these skills as well. Quilting and making projects, especially pet beds for local no-kill shelters, for our club’s fundraising events to fund our charity work is my passion! Sharing my knowledge is my gift to others!
