Kid's Beginner Sewing Workshop

Kid's Beginner Sewing Workshop

**If you your child has taken a class from Trish in the past, they do not need to take the Beginner Workshop.

This is a great class if your child has expressed interest in sewing and would like to learn how to use a sewing machine.  It is also the pre-requisite class before a student can enroll in our after-school program so that we can accommodate different skill levels in our Sewciety Kids After-School Program, students .

The Beginner Workshop is a  2-hour class and students will:

  • Learn Sewing Machine Safety
  • Get and introduction to the machine
  • Learn how to wind a bobbin
  • Learn how to thread the machine,
  • Make the “It’s a Cinch” drawstring bag project.

After taking the Beginner Workshop, kids are eligible to enroll in the Sewciety Kids After-School classes, entering at Level 1.

In the After-School program, students register for one Session at a time. A Session is simply a grouping of 75-minute long classes, held once a week for 6 weeks. In each Session, kids complete one Unit of the Program.

After completing 6 Units, students have completed a Level. (So a Level takes about 36 weeks, or one full school year, to complete).

Normally, students make two projects during each Unit. Typically the first project is a craft, accessory, or home décor item and the second is a garment.

The projects start simpler, teaching basic skills, and then get progressively more difficult. New skills are introduced and already-learned skills are reinforced with each new project.
